Don’t lose heart when you book a ticket and cannot travel due to some circumstances, and feeling that your money is wasted. Now you can transfer your ticket to someone else in your family.
In an initiative, IRCTC Next Generation has offered facility to transfer train tickets to relatives if they don’t travel on it.
You can transfer the train tickets to blood relations except wife and husband. If you have confirmed ticket and you cannot travel, you can transfer your ticket to your family members, including, father, brother, mother, sister, son, husband, daughter, or wife. To transfer the ticket, you must submit application at least 24 hours in advance of scheduled train departure.
Along with it, you can also transfer train tickets to any other government employee who is traveling on duty, at least 24 hours before scheduled departure of train.
Tickets can be transferred to other students of leading educational institutions in case head or principle makes request at least 48 hours before the departure time of the train.
Tickets can also be transferred to other members in a marriage event, if head of a party requests before 48 hours of departure of a train. It can be transferred to other NCC cadets, if head makes requests before 24 hours of scheduled departures. Keep in mind those changes can be made once if it doesn’t exceed 10% of total group members.
If you want to transfer ticket, you should approach the chief reservation supervisor/station manager and submit application for the specific purpose. You should also submit photocopy of proof of your relationship with person to whom you want to transfer ticket, such as voter ID card, ration card, bank passbook etc. proof of age is also needed for you to be submitted with application.
Then, station manager would provide permission and changes will be made as per the application. Reservation clerks generally don’t have privilege and access to make changes in tickets confirmed.
The person with rank of chief reservation supervisor has the privilege to make changes and transfer ticket in name of the person who wants to travel as per the details given in the application. The chief reservation supervisor will make changes manually in the tickets and gives the same to passenger. In the reservation chart, the change is reflected and is made when a person starts journey. New ticket will not be issued.
The Railway Administration has authorized the Chief Reservation Supervisor to allow the change the passenger’s name with a berth or seat booked in his name, according to a statement from the Indian Railways.
Indian Railways has further stated that those types of requests will be allowed only once. In case of marriage events, students, and NCC cadets, they can request for change around 10% of total number of people in the group.
